Who We Are

Our Mission

The Wing’s mission is the professional, civic, social, and economic advancement of women through community.

Our roots

Founding Mothers

The women’s club movement was formed in the 19th and early 20th century by pioneering women who provided each other with encouraging community at a time when they needed it most.

Carrying the torch

By the 1920s, the movement expanded across the country. Working women met in groups like the Lady Flashers and Lady Millionaires, and prominent women of color, including Ida B. Wells, founded clubs that still exist today.

A new era

Since 2016, The Wing aims to carry on the traditions, values, and spirit of the women’s club movement. We stand on the shoulders of the women who paved the way.

The Wing is committed to living our mission through partnerships with local non-profits, and a scholarship program that offers free memberships to individuals whose work supports the advancement of marginalized women and girls.
